Our Comprehensive Services

Tailored Educational Support for all ages

KRS Education Alternative Provision Secondary School Support

Alternative Provision

A fresh start for young people who need a different approach

At KRS Education, our Alternative Provision in Sheffield supports young people who are finding mainstream education difficult and need a safe, structured and supportive setting to re-engage with learning.

We work with schools, academies, local authorities and families to help students rebuild confidence, improve attendance, develop social skills and make progress in education again. For some, that means a supported return to school. For others, it means building a clear and positive next step towards Post-16 education, training or employment.

Our small-group model, experienced team and flexible approach mean every learner is seen as an individual. We know that not every young person learns in the same way, so we create provision that is practical, calm, engaging and built around what helps them succeed.

Why schools and families choose KRS Education

Small classes and short learning sessions

Our smaller class sizes are a priority. We have a classroom-based learning space as well as a classroom for learners who need to be active while they learn. We understand that active brains need active learning.

Each session is delivered in short blocks of no more than 20 minutes, helping students stay focused, experience success and avoid becoming overwhelmed. This approach, combined with strong relationships and clear routines, is one of the reasons our young people achieve.

A personalised plan for every child

Every child receives an ISP (Individual Support Plan) with clear goals. Short-term goals may focus on re-engaging with learning, improving attendance or building social skills. Longer-term goals may include a successful return to school, movement into a new placement or a more stable long-term education plan.

We make sure everyone involved has a clearer plan for success, including the young person, family, school and wider professionals.

Trusted, recognised and quality assured

KRS Education is Ofsted registered, NCFE registered, AQA registered and part of the Sheffield Educational Framework. Our provision is designed to give schools and families confidence that young people are learning in a setting with clear standards, recognised pathways and meaningful outcomes.

Our Alternative Provision weekly structure

Monday – Functional Skills and nurture support

Monday focuses on Functional Skills Maths and English alongside a Nurture Day for SEMH support, interventions and targeted help. It is a strong start to the week for learners who need routine, calm support and a chance to settle into learning.

Tuesday – AQA Unit Awards and confidence building

Tuesday is built around AQA Unit Awards, giving students the chance to achieve success in manageable steps. It is one of our key confidence-building days, helping young people who often think they cannot achieve begin to realise that they can. Learners also take part in a project afternoon, working towards a half-term project.

Wednesday – AQA Unit Awards and project learning

Wednesday continues with AQA Unit Awards and further confidence-building opportunities. The afternoon project work helps learners stay engaged, develop practical skills and work towards a meaningful outcome over the half term.

Thursday – Functional Skills and active learning

Thursday includes Functional Skills Maths and English, as well as active learning, boxing and larger half-term project work. This gives learners a balance of academic progress, movement and practical engagement.

Friday – Functional Skills, nurture and AQA success

Friday brings together Functional Skills Maths and English with another Nurture Day for SEMH support, interventions and relationship-based learning. We also blend in AQA Unit Awards, which are brilliant confidence builders for young people and help end the week with a sense of success.

More than just classroom learning

A full provision built around the whole child

Alongside the weekly structure, we also include PSHE, 1:1 intervention support, group work, walks out and short trips. This helps learners develop communication, emotional regulation, confidence and wider life skills, not just academic knowledge.

Our approach is built around the understanding that progress looks different for different young people. Sometimes the first win is attending. Sometimes it is speaking in a group. Sometimes it is completing work again. All of that matters.

Outcomes that matter

Building confidence, engagement and next steps

Our Alternative Provision in Sheffield is designed to help young people move forward. That may mean:

  • Re-engaging with education
  • Improving attendance and behaviour
  • Building confidence and resilience
  • Developing social and communication skills
  • Achieving recognised qualifications
  • Preparing for a supported return to school
  • Moving towards college, training, apprenticeships or employment

We focus on realistic progress, clear goals and the right support at the right time.

The You Matter Programme

You Matter Primary Programme

The You Matter Primary Programme is for children who need more than a standard classroom can offer right now. We work in small groups with tailored learning, targeted interventions and a strong focus on wellbeing, helping pupils who may be struggling with SEMH, trauma, SEND or anxiety to feel safe and ready to learn again. Alongside education support, we can include therapy sessions (such as art, play or sports-based approaches) to help children regulate, communicate and rebuild trust. We believe mainstream isn’t right for every child all the time—some pupils simply lose their way, and with the right guidance and support, they can return stronger, happier and more confident.
